Join Veterans and volunteers on December 14 at the Donel C. Kinnard Veterans Cemetery
Each year Americans gather on one Saturday in December across the nation to remember and honor our veterans as part of Wreaths Across America. This year, the theme is “Live with a Purpose,” and the West Virginia Department of Veterans Assistance invites veterans, families, and volunteers to honor our veterans by laying wreaths on veterans’ graves in an act of thanks and remembrance. The event, which will be held on Saturday, December 14 at 11:00 a.m. is open to all.
What began as a labor of love at Arlington National Cemetery has grown into a nationwide movement with more than two million volunteers annually at 4,600 locations.
The event symbolizes a united front of gratitude and respect across the country as we remember the fallen, honor those who serve, and teach the next generation the cost of freedom.
How You Can Get Involved
West Virginians can get involved by making a donation to purchase a wreath. One wreath can be purchased for $17, but all levels of donation are appreciated. Donations of cash or check can be accepted at the Donel C. Kinnard Veterans Cemetery in Dunbar.
You can also join the ceremony on December 14 and place a wreath by yourself or with family and friends. Wreaths Across America is an excellent opportunity to educate children about the sacrifices Veterans make and can establish a long-standing tradition of honoring the memory of those who have served our country.
