Volunteer Opportunity: Visit with a Veteran

National ‘Salute to Veteran Patients’ Week is Feb. 9-14

Every February, we come together as a nation to honor and appreciate the brave men and women who have served our country. From February 9-14 this year, the National Salute to Veteran Patients Week offers an opportunity to express gratitude and support to Veteran patients. This week is a time to reflect on the sacrifices made by these individuals and to ensure they feel our appreciation and respect.

A Proud Tradition

In 1978, the VA took over the sponsorship of a program launched by No Greater Love, Inc. a humanitarian Organization, which marked the beginning of the VA National Salute to Veteran Programs.

Now, opportunities are available all across the nation for volunteers to participate in various activities to honor Veteran patients.

Getting Involved

Similar to Wreaths Across America, this is a perfect opportunity for youth groups, Veterans Service Organizations and members of the public to showcase their appreciation for the sacrifices Veterans have made.

  • Visit a VA Facility: Find a VA facility near you. It’s important to call ahead before visiting to ensure the facility can accommodate your visit.
  • Send Letters or Cards: A simple note of thanks can go a long way. Organize a card-writing event with friends or community groups.
  • Organize a Small Event: Depending on the facility’s guidelines, consider organizing a small performance or activity to entertain and uplift the spirits of Veteran patients.

The National Salute to Veteran Patients Week is a time to unite in showing our heartfelt appreciation for the sacrifices made by our veterans. By participating in this week of gratitude, you’re not only honoring the service of these individuals but also contributing to their well-being and sense of community.

Join us in making this year’s National Salute to Veteran Patients Week a memorable one, filled with warmth, respect and appreciation.
